Covid-19: Not Making Peace, But Fighting Together Against Covid-19
Jakarta, 17 May 2020. We all certainly hope that the Covid-19 pandemic can end soon. However, we seem to need to prepare ourselves and face it for a long time. The World Health Organization (WHO) has warned that this pandemic may not be overcome in the near future. In fact, there are concerns that this virus will become endemic or continue to circulate in the human population until an effective vaccine is found and implemented on a mass scale.
Seeing this dynamic, the Indonesian government has asked the public to change their behavior and adapt to making peace with this new corona virus. In a press release on Saturday (16/5), Task Force Spokesperson Achmad Yurianto defined the new lifestyle as ensuring that people lead a normal life, which is balanced with efforts to get used to washing their hands with soap, using masks, avoiding crowds, and not leaving the house if it is not necessary.
Even though they have stated that they have not relaxed Large-Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB), community activities are already busy again. Long queues involving large crowds occurred at Soekarno-Hatta Airport last Thursday, in line with the reopening of flights. Previously, large crowds also occurred at one of the fast food outlets in Jakarta.
