PRESS RELEASE
Death rate due to Covid-19 decreases, awareness will not decrease

The number of deaths due to Covid-19 in Indonesia as of mid-October 2021 reached 187,905 people. This figure consists of 159,109 deaths of positive Covid-19 patients and 28,796 probable deaths. This data comes from district/city governments which are still recording developments in Covid-19 cases.
The central government recorded that deaths related to Covid-19 reached 142,651 people, around 45,000 cases lower than regional government data. This shows that there is still a difference in the death rates published by the central government and the accumulated results from regional governments.
At least 73% of deaths came from Java. Central Java is the province with the largest number of deaths, namely 46,287. Meanwhile, DKI Jakarta is the province with the highest number of probable deaths, namely 17,941.

Even though the central and regional government death data is not yet in sync, cases of death related to Covid-19 continue to occur. However, there appears to be a downward trend in death cases from 510 cities/districts during the two weeks ending October 23 2021. Outside Java, in general, there was a decline of 91% and 97%. On the island of Java, deaths are also beginning to be seen, although it is smaller than in areas outside Java.

For the city/district category, there are 419 cities/districts where deaths have decreased in the last month. There are 207 cities/regencies showing a decreasing trend in the number of deaths. A total of 141 cities/regencies also consistently did not increase the number of deaths. A total of 71 cities/regencies, even in the last two weeks up to October 1 2021, did not record any deaths related to Covid-19. This phenomenon is influenced by many factors. One of them is vaccination whose coverage has reached at least 45% of the community.
In addition, based on the categorization graph, we found 91 regions from 21 provinces with a bi-weekly increasing trend in death cases. A total of 68 cities/districts are consistent with the number of additional deaths related to Covid-19.
Previously, 23 cities/regencies in South Sulawesi, North Sumatra and Aceh were the top 3 regions showing an increasing trend in mortality rates. Langkat Regency, Gorontalo City and Luwu Regency are the 3 cities/districts with the largest trend in increasing the number of deaths in the last two weeks.
Regions that are still showing an increasing trend in Covid-19 deaths need to receive government attention. For example, the government is promoting vaccination distribution, regional restrictions, and also preparing supplies of health service facilities that can accommodate the worst conditions.
Even though the general trend in the number of deaths is decreasing, the government and society are not relaxing procedures for handling the Covid-19 pandemic situation. This is because Covid-19 has not completely disappeared and the national vaccination target still needs to continue to be increased until it meets the target. This needs to be done so that we are better prepared to face the worst possibility, namely the third wave of the Covid-19 pandemic which is predicted to rise again in December 2021.
